For Dale Knight, the Zoo Is Family

For Dale Knight, the Zoo Is Family

Dale Knight is more than a friend of the Saint Louis Zoo - he is Zoo family. Dale has done just about everything there is to do at the Zoo. Like many planned giving donors in the Zoo's Heritage Society, Dale started coming to the Zoo as a child. He fondly remembers riding Miss Jim the elephant and petting Siegfried the walrus' nose. Since becoming a Zoo volunteer in 1990, he has given 7,000 hours of time in addition to numerous charitable contributions to support the care and conservation of animals. Volunteering has provided him rich opportunities to share the Zoo's vision with visitors from around the country and all over the world.

Dale has invited many fellow volunteers to experience the joy of philanthropy. When Dale and his wife Sue decided to share their bequest intentions with the Zoo, it was partly to inspire others to consider their desire to create a legacy for themselves through the good work of the Zoo.

Dale and Sue Knight's charitable legacy will live on through the Zoo's Endowment, supporting the Saint Louis Zoo for future generations by continuing to connect its visitors to the natural world to make life better for animals and humans alike.

Dale passed away in 2016, but his spirit and impact will live on forever at the Saint Louis Zoo.
